San Diego, Calif. — Auburn soccer goalkeeper Megan Rivera was one of 27 players invited to a 13-day training camp at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in San Diego, Calif., for the chance of a spot on the U.S. Under-19 Women’s National Team that will participate in the first-ever FIFA Under-19 Women’s World Championship, taking place in Canada from Aug. 17- Sept. 1.

Rivera, a sophomore from Miami, Fla., will be up against three other goalkeepers in vying for a spot on the National Team. 

Auburn head coach Karen Richter has joined Rivera in San Diego as an assistant coach for the National Team.

“Megan being selected into this pool of players is just a tremendous accomplishment for her,” Richter said. “To have a chance to make it to the World Championship team and working with 27 of the best players in the country is incredible. Megan and I are excited to be a part of it.”

The U.S. players will train daily and play several scrimmages during the camp, all working towards earning a spot on the 18-woman roster when the USA opens World Championship play on Saturday, Aug. 17, against England at 1 p.m. PT.
