Auburn Soccer Team Closes Out Successful Spring Season April 19, 2004
Jac Schwarz The Tigers held the Tide scoreless for the final 62 minutes of the game before Alabama scored their only goal of the game. Jac Schwarz, Ronda Brooks and Courtney Crandell each notched two goals and Chrissy Culver added one in Auburn's win. Brooks' two goals on the night were both unassisted as the sophomore defender went coast-to-coast on both scores. Crandell, a junior transfer from UNC-Charlotte, led Auburn's offense this spring with five goals. Schwarz, Brooks and Sarah Steinmann contributed four goals each. Playing for the first time in a Tiger uniform, Crandell scored her first goal in Auburn's spring opener against the Chicago Panthers (U-19 team). She scored Auburn's only goal in their tie against Miami (Ohio) on March 6 and added another against the Peachtree City Lazers (U-17 team) on March 14. Auburn opened the spring season on Feb. 28 with games against the Chicago Panthers, Memphis and Purdue. After the trio of games, the Tigers walked away with a win and two ties. Schwarz, Steinmann and Crandell put up one goal each as the Tigers held the Panthers scoreless. In game two, Memphis went up 2-0 early in the first half, before Auburn returned in the second to tie the game with a final score of 2-2. The Tigers and Boilermakers played a defensive game that ended in a 0-0 tie. Scoring her second goal of the season, Crandell notched Auburn's only goal of the game against Miami (Ohio) on March 6. Auburn held the Redhawks to only one goal and ended the game with their third tie of the season (1-1). The Tiger's added two wins on March 21 as they held the Georgia ODP '87 State team and the GSA U-17 Club team scoreless in both meetings. Steinmann led Auburn with three goals (two against the Georgia ODP team) on the day. Ashley Willis, Schwarz, Culver and Brooks turned in a goal each in the Georgia ODP game. The Tigers look forward to the 2004 fall season after a successful spring. The schedule is expected to be released in early summer.
