Auburn Soccer Team Dominates GSA Tournament

GWINETT, Ga
.—-The Auburn soccer team took all three exhibition games it played in at the Gwinett Soccer Association, Saturday. The Tigers defeated Clemson 1-0, GSA U-17 Phoenix Red 4-0 and Minnesota 1-0. In all three games, all the forwards for the Tigers scored or had an assists.

In the first game against Clemson, Auburn scored on a header by Chrissy Culver from Sandy Carnes off a corner kick from Jenny Zarzour.

The Tigers took on the GSA under-17 Phoenix Red team and defeated them 4-0.

All four goals came in the second half. Auburn’s first goal came from Kristen Stewart with the assist coming from Chrissy Culver. Jaqueline Schwarz later scored on an assist from Jenny Zarzour, who later scored on an assist from Chrissy Culver. The Tigers last goal came from Jessie Allan, who scored on an assist from Sara Power.

The first two games were two, 30-minute halves.

In the last game of the tournament, Auburn took on Minnesota in one, 45-minute half.

The Tigers won the game 1-0 off a Sarah Steinmann header from Carly Thomas.

"The midfield has made significant improvements," Auburn head coach Karen Hoppa said. "They (midfield) set the tone and pace and were outstanding. The team played great in general and that really gets us excited for the upcoming season."
