Auburn Women's Golf Tied for Fifth at East Regional
May 11, 2007 Baton Rouge, La. - The Auburn women's golf team made tremendous strides in the second round of the NCAA East Regional on Saturday afternoon at the par-72, 6,403 University Club course. The Tigers leaped nine places after shooting a 6-under 282 and are currently tied for fifth. UCLA remains in the lead by four strokes (281-283-564) over Wake Forest (284-284-568). Top-seeded Duke is in third (291-281-572). Auburn is 11 strokes out of the lead, 293-282-575. The Tigers second round 282 is a season low. The top eight finishers in the regional will advance to the NCAA Championship in two weeks. "I am proud of how we came out and fought our way back into the top eight," head coach Kim Evans said. "We had another strong start, but this time we able to carry out that momentum for the entire day. We hope to come out tomorrow and put on a similar performance and hopefully that will be enough for us to advance to the championship." Senior Nicole Hage shot a career regional second round best 2-under 70 and continues to lead all Auburn competitors. Hage is tied for fourth with a season low 138 for 36 holes. Margaret Shirley also fired a 2-under 70 and is tied for 31st. Carding rounds of 1-under 71 were Marisa Milligan and Abigale Schepperle. Milligan moved to 40th, while A. Schepperle is tied for 47th. Candace Schepperle is tied for 59th after shooting 1-over 73. UCLA's Sydnee Michaels (66-68-134) leads all competitors. Wake Forest's Nannette Hill is in second (66-70-136), followed by Louisville's Cindy LaCrosse (69-68-137).
