Margaret Shirley Named To SEC Good Works Team



Martinez is Auburn's first SEC Champion since 2000

AUBURN - Auburn sophomore Margaret Shirley has been named to the SEC Women's Golf Good Works Team, as announced by the league office. Senior Maria Martinez has also been named the Golfweek Player of the Week after winning the SEC Championship individual title and helping to lead the Tigers to their second consecutive conference title.

Shirley, a Roswell, Ga., native, earned the honor through her devotion to community service. The communications major volunteers at the Atlanta Junior Golf Association and has been a speaker to the organization. As a member of the Auburn Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Shirley has assisted in planning canned food and clothing drives in the Auburn/Opelika area.

Martinez fired a 5-under par in the three-day tournament to claim the individual title and sunk birdie putts on each of the final two holes to give the Tigers a one-stroke victory over Tennessee for the SEC team title. The senior has now been a part of three SEC team championships (2003, 2005, 2006).

Auburn travels to the Lady Buckeye Invite April 22-23 at the Golf Club of Dublin and will await its placing in the NCAA Regional to take place May 11-13, which will be announced May 1.
