Auburn Equestrian Finishes Fourth In Hunt Seat And Eighth In Western At The VENC
April 20, 2007 Waco, Texas - Auburn finished its trip at the Varsity Equestrian National Championships with a fourth-place finish on the hunt seat end and an eighth-place finish on the western. The overall team standings will be determined after the championship round is completed. "I am disappointed," said Auburn head coach Greg Williams. "There is nothing wrong in where we finished. We just didn't ride like I know we can."The Tigers fell to Baylor in western 6-2 on Thursday. Auburn continued on in the consolation round Friday, where it was defeated 5-3 by Georgia. "We didn't get anything done," said Williams. "We didn't act like we were here to ride in the championship round. The teams we have beaten before rose up, and I guess it just wasn't our time to rise up." Auburn's hunt seat team finished Thursday's second round meet against South Carolina with a 7-0 loss. Going into the consolation round Friday, the Tigers fell to Kansas State 5-3. "We rode a little too conservatively over fences," said Williams. "The flat did a great job, and I wouldn't change anything they did." Competing for the western championship are No.1 Texas A&M and No.7 South Carolina and vying for the hunt seat title are No.1 South Carolina and No.3 Georgia.
