Men's Golf To Open NCAA East Regional Play Thursday

ORLANDO, Fla. - The 11th-seeded Auburn men's golf team will open play in the NCAA East Regional Thursday at the par-72, 7,215-yard Lake Nona Golf Club in Orlando, Fla. The East Regional includes eight of the nation's top 16 teams in the latest Golfweek rankings.

Senior All-SEC Stuart Moore, who leads the team with a 72.77 stroke average, will play the No. 1 position for the Tigers. True freshman Glenn Northcutt (73.23) will occupy the No. 2 spot followed by sophomore Patton Kizzire (74.43) at No. 3 and junior Andrew Medley (72.83) at No. 4. Sophomore Jay Moseley (74.03) will play in the No. 5 slot.

"We look forward to playing a very good golf course in a tough regional that includes nine ranked teams," head coach Mike Griffin said. "We have made progress in almost every tournament this year, and we want to be playing our best golf this time of year. I think we are fully prepared and ready to go."

The East Regional teams in order of seeding include top-ranked Georgia, No. 5 UCLA, No. 9 UNLV, No. 11 Georgia State, No. 12 North Carolina, No. 19 Southern California, No. 13 Texas Tech, No. 16 Wake Forest, Charlotte, No. 24 Coastal Carolina, Auburn, Tennessee, South Carolina, Florida State, Indiana, Notre Dame, Georgia Southern, Maryland, Jacksonville and Western Illinois to round out the top 20. Witchita State is the 21st-seed followed by Rhode Island, George Washington, Richmond, Liberty, Army and Binghamton.

The Tigers are making their seventh-consecutive Regional appearance and 16th overall in the last 18 years. Auburn has been placed in the East Regional in every other appearance other than going to the West Regional last year.

The top 10 teams and two individuals not on those teams will advance to the NCAA Men's Golf Championship in Sunriver, Ore., May 31-June 3. Following the Regionals, Auburn has advanced to the NCAA Championship 12 times.

Following a Wednesday practice round, the Tigers open the first round off the No. 10 tee at 11:35 am Central Thursday with Coastal Carolina and Tennessee. Live scoring can be found at www.golfstat.com.
