Glenn Northcutt Named MVP At Auburn Men's Golf Banquet
May 8, 2007 AUBURN - Auburn sophomore Glenn Northcutt was named the Most Valuable Player at the men's golf team's annual banquet. The All-SEC second-team selection also claimed the Low Scoring Average Award of 72.61 for 31 rounds played this year as well as the Best Performance Average Award of .322.
Northcutt notched three top-10 finishes this year, including a third place finish in the Seminole Intercollegiate where he helped guide Auburn to its first road win since 2003. The Dothan, Ala., native finished eighth in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate and tied for ninth in the SEC Championship.
Juniors Jamie Bowen and Gordon Strother were presented the Fireman Award with a 74.06 and 74.10 stroke average, respectively. Bowen became the first Auburn golfer since the 2004-05 season to record two straight top-10 finishes, tying for seventh in the Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational and sixth in the Morris Williams Intercollegiate. Strother played in seven tournaments and led the Tigers with a 4-over 220 in the Administaff Augusta State Invitational.
Junior All-SEC Patton Kizzire was named the Most Improved Golfer as he played in all 11 tournaments totaling a 72.97 stroke average. He claimed his first individual title and became Auburn's fourth SEC Champion with a three-stroke victory in the SEC Championship.
Freshman Brent Cooper received the Joe King Freshman of the Year Award with a 73.67 stroke average. He fired a low round 66 in the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, helping the Tigers finish sixth.
Auburn earned the 11th-seed in the 27-team NCAA East Regional to be played at The Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, Ga., May 17-19.
