Seven Tigers Named to All-SEC Team; Auburn Selected Second in SEC West July 29, 2005 AUBURN - Seven Tigers have been named to the 2005 Southeastern Conference Football Media Days All-SEC Team, including six to the first-team, it was announced Friday. Additionally, Auburn was selected by the attending media to finish second in the Western Division. Senior offensive tackle Marcus McNeill headlined Auburn's contingent, taking 84 votes. Eighty-seven voters participated in the All-SEC voting. McNeill, a Decatur, Ga., native, was the top vote getter and only player to receive more than 80 votes. Junior wide receiver Courtney Taylor, who caught 43 passes and six touchdowns last season, joined McNeill on the All-SEC First-Team offense list. Offensively, senior tight end Cooper Wallace was the only Tiger named to the second-team. Auburn placed two players on the defensive first-team list. Junior defensive end Stanley McClover, after posting 7 οΎ½ sacks and 10 tackles for loss last season, was named to the first-team as was senior linebacker Travis Williams, who paced Auburn with 80 tackles in 2004. Lastly, Auburn's top two kicking specialists * junior placekicker John Vaughn and punter Kody Bliss * were also named to the first-team. Vaughn connected on 12 of 15 field goals last season while Bliss placed 17 punts inside the 20 and averaged 2.3 yards per kick. Auburn received 12 first-place votes and finished second in the SEC's Western Division to LSU as decided upon by the voters. Tennessee, which received 49 first-place votes, finished first in the East. The Volunteers also were selected to win the SEC, taking 37 votes to best Florida, which received the second-most votes with 21. Auburn opens the 2005 season by hosting Georgia Tech at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Sept. 3 at 7:45 p.m. CT. The game will air on ESPN.
