Auburn Tailback Tre Smith Has Appendix Removed

July 27, 2005

AUBURN - Auburn junior tailback Tre Smith underwent successful surgery to remove his appendix Tuesday evening at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.  The 5-10, 199-pound Venice, Fla., native is expected to make a full recovery.

"I'm glad the surgery went well," Smith said. "I'm looking forward to a speedy recovery so that I can join my teammates on the practice field soon."

Smith, who missed the final 10 games of the 2004 season with a shoulder injury, has rushed for 631 yards and nine touchdowns in 23 career games at Auburn.

The Auburn football team will report on August 1 and begin preseason practice on August 2.
