Thirty-Five Auburn Student-Athletes Named To SEC Freshmen Academic Honor Roll

AUBURN - Thirty-five Auburn student-athletes from 10 sports have been named to the Southeastern Conference's Freshmen Academic Honor Roll, the league announced Thursday.

Each student-athlete named to the honor roll must have a 3.0 GPA, be a letterwinner, have completed 24 credit hours and be a member of the team for the entire season. Grades are based on the 2006-07 academic year.

Men's swimming and diving placed the most student-athletes on the honor roll with nine. They include Jordan Anderson (Pre-Dentistry), Will Dove (Pre-Graphic Design), Caleb Dunnichay (Pre-Medicine), Jonathan Hiett (Nutrition & Food Science), Kelly Marx (Pre-Pharmacy), Daniel Mazzaferro (Pre-Medicine), Tyler McGill (Pre-Business), Marshel Renz (Biochemistry) and Pascal Wollach (Biomedical Sciences).

The Auburn equestrian saw six of its athletes honored. They are Jennifer Barbero (Agricultural Business & Economics), Jessica Jones (Pre-Veterinary), Peyton Love (Animal Sciences), Kylie Miller (Exercise Science), Rebecca Rifkin (Animal Sciences) and Courtney Schafer (Communication).

The Auburn soccer team also has six selections. They include Monica Afanador (Undeclared Liberal Arts), Carolyn Cohen (Undeclared Liberal Arts), Stephanie Fransoso (Pre-Dentistry), Rebecca Howell (Undeclared Liberal Arts), Jenni Prescott (Pre-Veterinary) and Kasey Warren (Pre-Business).

Both the Auburn softball and women's swimming and diving team have three honorees. For softball, selected was Alicia Hunolt (Pre-Environmental Science), Krista Klein (Political Science) and Anna Thompson (Pre-Architecture).

The following student-athletes were selected from women's swimming and diving: Maggie Bird (Pre-Business), Melissa Marik (Undeclared Liberal Arts) and Ava Ohlgren (Exercise Science).

Three sports claimed two spots on the list. Neil Caudle (Pre-Building Science) and Zach Clayton (Pre-Business) were selected from the football team, while Luke Gaines (Pre-Industrial Design) and Luke Robinson (Mathematics) represented men's track and field. Laurel Pritchard (Nutrition & Food Science) and Amy Shaffer (Pre-Business) were honored from women's track and field.

Both gymnastics and women's tennis had one student-athlete selected. Kristina Voss (Pre-Medicine) represented the gymnastics team while Jill Hastenrath (Pre-Business) is from women's tennis.
