CHARLOTTE split a pair of Conference matches at home after a 3-0 loss to Saint Louis on Oct. 19 and a 3-0 win over Duquesne on Oct. 21 to move to 12-11 overall and 2-6 in the Conference. Senior outside hitter Alma Arroyo (San Juan, Puerto Rico) recorded double figures in kills in both matches, putting up 10 versus SLU and 20 against Duquesne. She added 17 digs against the Dukes for her 11th double-double of the season.

DAYTON, ranked No. 12 by the AVCA entering last week, saw a 21-match winning streak snapped after a 3-1 loss at Xavier on Oct. 19. The streak was the longest in school history and the Flyers are now 21-1 and 8-1 in league play. The match was played in front of 1,249 fans on `Dig for the Cure' night in Cincinnati. Senior outside hitter Jamie-Lee Richards (Virginia Beach, Va.) led the Flyers with 14 kills on the night.

DUQUESNE fell 3-1 at George Washington on Oct. 19 and 3-0 at Charlotte on Oct. 21 to fall to 10-13 overall and 2-6 in the A-10. Freshman libero Amy Palko (Imperial, Pa.) set a career-high with four service aces and had a career-best 27 digs in a four-game match against GW. She finished with 47 digs on the weekend.

FORDHAM split a pair of matches to move to 11-16 and 3-5 in the league. The Rams fell to Temple, 3-1, on Oct. 19, and swept La Salle on Oct. 20. Freshman middle hitter Christi Griffiths (Lancaster, Pa.) earned her third Rookie of the Week honor after averaging 4.43 kills and 0.71 blocks in two matches. She is the first Ram to earn three Rookie of the Week honors. Junior setter Katherine Burrell (Phoenix, Ariz.) averaged 14.71 assists and 3.57 digs per game.

GEORGE WASHINGTON went 1-1 on the weekend wit ha 3-1 win over Duquesne on Oct. 19 and a 3-0 sweep by Saint Louis on Oct. 20 to move to 11-13 overall and 3-5 in Conference play. Senior outside hitter Janine Brown (Jacksonville, Fla.) is just 12 kills shy of 1,000 for her career and seven digs shy of 1,000. She could top both milestones her next match at La Salle on Oct. 26.


 

 

LA SALLE has dropped eight straight matches after being swept by Penn on Oct. 16, Rhode Island on Oct. 19 and Fordham on Oct. 21. La Salle's last 10 losses have been by 3-0 sweeps. Junior outside hitter Jackie Kushman (Warrington, Pa.) led the Explorers with 31 kills on the week, including 13 versus Rhode Island.

RHODE ISLAND picked up a 3-0 sweep over La Salle on Oct. 19 but fell, 3-0 to Temple on Oct. 20. The Rams are now 11-12 overall and 3-5 in the league. Senior setter Kaira Kachadurian (Fresno, Calif.) posted a match-high 47 assists versus La Salle and averaged 14.1 assists per game.

SAINT LOUIS lifted its record to 17-5 overall and 6-2 in the A-10 West Division after a pair of A-10 sweeps at Charlotte on Oct. 19 and at George Washington on Oct. 21. The Billikens are riding a seven-match winning streak which is the longest under current head coach Anne Kordes. Sophomore outside hitter Sammi McCloud (Columbia, Ill.) had a match-high 15 kills versus Charlotte and followed with a double-double of 12 kills and 11 digs versus GW. She has posted double-digit kills in eight of SLU's nine matches.

TEMPLE went 3-0 on the week to lifts its overall record to 10-16 and to move to 5-4 to lead the A-10 East Division. Senior outside hitter Yue Liu (TianTing, China) was named co-Player of the Week after averaging 4.0 kills, 3.1 digs and 1.4 blocks per game. The Owls topped Fordham 3-1 on Oct. 19, swept Rhode Island on Oct. 20 and swept Villanova earlier in the week on Oct. 17. Liu had 13 kills, 13 digs and seven blocks versus Fordham.

XAVIER remained perfect in league play after a 3-1 upset win over No. 12 Dayton on Oct. 19 before a home crowd of 1,249 fans. It was Xavier's second win over a ranked opponent this season and helped the Musketeers move to 19-6 overall and 9-0 in the A-10 West Division. Sophomore outside hitter Kelly Ruth (Elyria, Ohio) posted a her 11th double-double of the season with 15 kills and 18 digs and added three blocks in the win to earn co-Player of the Week honors. The Musketeers are enjoying an eight-match winning streak , their longest since the 2002 season.
