Wrestling Falls To No. 8 Michigan State 17-15

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State's Cory Posey scored a 9-7 victory over freshman Nick Frost in the final match of the afternoon to lift the No. 8 Michigan State Spartans to a 17-15 win over the No. 19 Arizona State Sun Devils Sunday. Arizona State fell to 2-2 on the season, while the Spartans improved to 1-1 on the year. Arizona State took a 3-0 lead in the match after No. 3 Steve Blackford earned a 4-3 decision from Michigan State's No. 20 Greg DeGrand at 165 pounds. Michigan State's Will Hill evened the score with a 13-8 win over junior Curtis Owen at 174, but junior Will McCleve put the Sun Devils on top 6-3 with a 3-1 overtime victory at 184 pounds. The Spartans then ran off three consecutive victories to lead 14-6 after six matches, but Arizona State answered with three straight victories of their own to take a 15-14 lead heading into the final match of the dual meet. Sophomore Daniel Hyman (133), No. 13 David Douglas (141) and No. 13 Quinn Foster (149) emerged victorious to give ASU the late lead. In the final match of the afternoon, Posey used a strong third period to overcome an early deficty and pull out a 9-7 decision over the Sun Devils' Nick Frost, giving Michigan State the 17-15 dual-meet win. Arizona State returns to action on Sunday, Dec. 9 as they head to No. 15 Cal State Bakersfield to open their Pac-10 Conference slate. The dual meet is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Mountain Standard Time.
