UAB hopes to build upon its 2005 success
 
 
Blazers Set For C-USA Indoor Track and Field Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB track and field team has competed in five events this spring in preparation for the 2006 Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend. The meet is hosted by the University of Houston and will be held inside Yeoman Field house. The Blazers enter the competition with hopes to build upon their recent success.

UAB is one of the top returning schools after finishing third out of 13 schools last year. The Blazers are led by Ray Stanfield, who was named the 2005 Conference USA Coach of the Year. UAB had six athletes named all-conference including Elizabeth Ambrus, who finished first in the 5,000-meter run and second in the 3,000-meter run.

Genoah Collins, who was also named all-conference, had a tremendous meet finishing third in the 800-meter finals with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Collins also earned all-conference honors for her role in the 4x400-meter relay team.

Competition is scheduled to start Friday with the men's Heptathlon at 9 a.m. CT and concludes Saturday with the men's 4x400m Relay at 4:35 p.m. CT. The presentation of awards will begin shortly after the last event.
