Women's Soccer Shuts Out Birmingham-Southern 3-0
Oct. 4, 2001 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Behind the strength of three second-half goals, UAB claimed a 3-0 win over Birmingham-Southern College in women's soccer action at the BSC Soccer Park Thursday. With the win, UAB improved to 3-6 overall, while BSC dropped to 3-3-1 with the loss. Neither team scored until the 51st minute when UAB's Adrienne Suffridge (Columbia, S.C.) scored from point blank range after a rebound off a corner kick. The Lady Blazers wasted little time adding the second goal as Bridget Winston (Dallas, Texas) headed home a perfectly executed corner kick from Briana McCarty (Lawrenceville, Ga.) in the 59th minute. Denise Peters ( Jacksonville, Ala.) added a breakaway goal in the 66th minute to finish the night's scoring. Lisa Nowoslawski ( Melbourne, Fla.) made five saves in goal for UAB to earn the win. UAB outshot the Panthers 14-11 and also had 11 corner kicks to BSC's four.
The Blazers come back home this weekend, facing Louisville in a Sunday afternoon match-up. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. at West Campus Field and will precede the men's soccer match against Alabama A&M at 3:00 p.m.
