Women's Golf Finishes Seventh At Southern Miss Lady Eagle Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. ----- The UAB women's golf team fired a 967 (325-327-315) to finish in seventh at the Southern Miss Lady Eagle Invitational played here Tuesday. The Lady Blazers final round score of 315 was their lowest round of the tournament, enabling them to hold on to the seventh spot in the 18-team field.

The Lady Blazers were led by Liz Schweihs, who finished in a tie for 30th overall carding a three-round total of 240 (79-81-80) on the par 72, 5,909-yard Shadow Creek Golf Club. Junior Brooke Mangan fired a team-best round of 76 on the final 18 holes and finished tied for 32nd overall with a 241 (87-78-76).

Freshman Kelli Cassady finished tied for 37th, carding a 243 (81-82-80), while sophomore Janey Deimling was just behind, finishing in 39th overall with a 244 (78-87-79). Senior Katie Kane rounded out the UAB golfers, placing 76th overall with a 264 (87-86-91).

The College of Charleston (910) finished 14 strokes ahead of second-place finisher Campbell (924). Tournament ost Southern Miss rounded out the medal winners with a 928.

The Blazers were one of four Conference USA teams competing in the tournament. Along with the Golden Eagles, Memphis (978, 8th) and Cincinnati (1021, 15th) also competed during the two-day event.

Birmingham-Southern (932, 5th), Troy State (995, 10th), South Alabama (1001, 12th), Samford (1001, 12th), and Mobile (1073, 17th) were the other Alabama schools in the tournament.

UAB completed its regular season with this week's tournament, and will play next in the Conference USA Tournament in Fort Worth, Texas on April 19-22.
