Women's Golf In Seventh After First Round of LSU/Cleveland Classic

BATON ROUGE, La. - After shooting 315 in the first round of the LSU/Cleveland Classic in Baton Rouge, the UAB women's golf team is in seventh place. Auburn University leads the field on the par 72, 6,265 yard University Club Golf Course with a 293, with host LSU in second place, two strokes back at 295. In the individual competition, Celeste Troche of Auburn and Lina Thoren of Mississippi State lead the tournament with a 1-under par 71. Three players are tied for third at 72.. Sophomore Christina Gushanas , junior Heather Lourie , freshman Emily Hendricks and junior Petra Hallberg all counted scores for the Blazers during the first round. Gushanas, who leads UAB with 76, put her in a tie for 15th place. Lourie, who is one shot back at 77 is tied for 20th place, while Hendricks is tied for 34th spot after a first round 80. Hallberg shot a first round 82 and is tied for 47th place. Also for the Blazers, freshman Katie Kane is in 62nd place with a 93.
The second round of play will begin early Saturday morning.
