Lady Blazers Finish In Tie For 13th At LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic

BATON ROUGE, La. ----- The UAB women's golf team concluded play at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic here Sunday tied for 13th overall. The Lady Blazers ended the round with a weekend low score of 323 to finish with a 983 (330-332-323) and moved up two spots to tie Kentucky in the 13th position. Sophomore Janey Deimling led the Lady Blazers in a tournament for the first time in her two-year career, finishing in 60th overall with a 244 (82-80-82). Freshman Martha Hudson finished second for the Lady Blazers with a 247 (82-86-79) to place in a tie for 66th overall. Brooke Mangan finished in a tie for 69th with a 248 (87-78-83), while Liz Schweihs concluded tournament play with a 253 (79-89-85) to place in a tie for 82nd. The low round of the day came from Baton Rouge, La. native Katie Kane, who rebounded from a pair of high scores in the first two rounds, to shoot a 77 on the afternoon. Kane finished in 86th with a 256 (91-88-77) in the three-day event. Tulane (308-296-302/906) entered the day as the tournament leader, and had the best score among the top-team pairing that included host LSU and Ole Miss, but North Carolina (306-305-292/903) shot a tourney-best 292 in the final round to win the event by three-strokes over the Green Wave. The tournament host Tigers finished third with a 913 (301-306-306), while Ole Miss (313-296-306/915) and Furman (310-308-304/922) round out the top five.
The LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic was played at The University Club, a 6,265-yard, par 72 course. The Lady Blazers golf team will next be in action on March 15-16, when they travel to Tampa, Fla. to compete in the Waterlefe Invitational.
