Women's Golf Leads Birmingham-Southern Shootout

BIRMINGHAM - Despite high winds and slick greens, the UAB women's golf team sits atop the leader board after 18 holes of the Birmingham-Southern Shootout at the Founders Course at Greystone Country Club.

The Blazers shot a team score of 335 to pace the nine-team field, six of which are from Alabama. The Blazers lead second place South Alabama (340) by five strokes and third place Troy State (342) by seven strokes.

UAB was led by senior Heather Lourie's 81 and freshman Brooke Mangan's 83. Also for the Blazers, junior Jenni Elmore shot 84, sophomore Katie Kane shot 87, and junior Christina Gushanas shot 91.

The Blazers will shoot for the tournament win tomorrow as play gets underway at 9:30 a.m.
