UAB honored its 2005 senior student-athletes at an awards dinner this week


UAB's 2005 senior student-athletes were honored at the Blazers' annual banquet.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- UAB Athletics recognized its 2004-05 senior student-athletes at its annual awards dinner Monday night with Paul Linsky of the Blazer football team and women's basketball's Katie Billue taking home the Male and Female Academic Awards, respectively.

Linsky, from Birmingham, and Billue, from Guntersville, Ala., were just two of the student-athletes honored at the annual event. Kris Lara, a senior softball player from Elk Grove, Calif., picked up a pair of prestigious honors as she was tabbed the winner of the Gene Bartow Scholarship Award and the SAAC (Student Athlete Advisory Council).

Baseball pitcher Jeff Brown was recognized as the winner of the Harry "The Hat" Walker Memorial Scholarship while rifle team senior Stacey Fox was named the recipient of the Jerry D. Young Memorial Scholarship.

Also honored Monday were synchronized swimmer Stephanie Jackson who was named the winner of the Lillyan Fahy Scholarship and football wide receiver Charles Griffin who was tabbed for the "Snoozy" Jones Scholarship.

The Blazers also recognized four individuals as new "Honorary Letterwinners:" UAB Faculty Representative Dr. Johnny Scott; Dr. Bill Garth,the Medical Director of the UAB Sports Medicine Clinic as well as the team orthopedic physician for UAB athletics; Dr. Michael Gallichio, Assistant Professor, Transplant Surgeon at UAB Hospital; and Blazer Associate Athletics Director Mo Harbin.
