Nanooks Swept By RedHawks

Oct. 19, 2007

SEATTLE, WA- The Alaska Nanooks continued to struggle offensively Thursday night, as they were swept on the road by the Seattle RedHawks Thursday night in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action, by scores of 30-26, 30-28, and 30-27.

The loss was the sixth straight for the Nanooks, who fell to 9-11 overall and 3-9 in the GNAC. Seattle improved to 9-11 overall and 6-6 in the conference.

The Nanooks played close in what became a defensive battle, but were unable to make the key play when it came down to the wire. Offensively, both teams struggled: the Nanooks were held to .074 hitting percentage, while Seattle mustered a .107 clip in the match.

Alaska was led by sophomore outside hitter Megan Thigpen, who had 11 kills and 13 digs for her 15th double-double of the season. Rookie middle hitter Erica Gage got nine kills and senior Jessica King led the Nanooks backcourt with 16 digs.

Nikole Thompson had 11 kills to lead Seattle University. In addition to Thompson, Seattle got nine kills from Libby Graff and eight from Kelly Benson. Emily Deleissegues had 21 digs and Thompson had 12. Janet Beckerman paced the RedHawks with four blocks.

Alaska visits Montana State Billings Saturday, when it will look to snap a four-match losing skid.
