John Sung has been named as the head coach of the first varsity women's lacrosse team at Adrian College. Beginning in the spring of 2008, Adrian College will be the first college or university in the state of Michigan to field a varsity women's lacrosse team. Sung comes to Adrian from the University of Michigan where he has spent the past five years as the assistant women's club lacrosse coach. Four of the five Wolverine teams that Sung helped to coach have made appearances in the USL-WDIA final four. The Wolverines accumulated a 93-22 record while he was the assistant coach. Also while at U of M, Sung was in charge of recruiting for the team and has had one goalie tabbed as the pre-season player of the year. In response to being asked how Adrian College will bring in top-level recruits, Sung replied, "We're going to educate the kids we have coming into our program on and off the field. They will get a quality education from Adrian while having the opportunity to play lacrosse. With the outstanding facilities we have, we look to develop the Adrian College women's lacrosse team into an elite program." A longtime trainer of goalies, Sung has held various coaching positions with Birmingham Seaholm High School and the Detroit Lacrosse Club. He has been the assistant director of the Great Lakes Women's Lacrosse Camp since 1997. As a player, Sung was a captain of the Oakland University lacrosse team from 1996-1997. He was also a member of two International Cup Championship teams. Sung earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in communications from Oakland University. |
