March 8, 2003 Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - Adelphi University senior setter Brianne MacArthur has been selected as the 2002-03 New York Collegiate Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women's volleyball. MacArthur, who majors in physical education, has been a Dean's List selection five times and finished the fall 2002 semester with a 3.65 cumulative grade point average. On the court, she was selected as NYCAC Player of the Week for the week of October 14, 2002, and ended her career as her school's all-time leader in assists with 3,014. She was also nominated for scholar-athlete honors in women's basketball. The Panthers finished the fall 2002 season with an 18-17 overall record and a 5-7 conference mark. Their eighth place finish qualified for the conference tournament, where they were eliminated in the quarterfinals. MacArthur becomes the second straight Panther to win the award, following in the footsteps of teammate Lauren Schultz a year ago. This season's voting was the closest ever, with the eventual winner beating out a trio of challengers by just one vote.
