Game One/Game Two

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The Adelphi softball team traveled to nearby Rockville Centre, New York for a conference match-up with the Molloy College Lions. Adelphi out hit the lions in game one 12-8 but fell 6-5 in 12 innings. The Panthers exploded for 11 runs in the second game, while holding Molloy to just four to pick-up an 11-4 decision. With the split Adelphi is 20-12 overall and 13-5 in conference play, while Molloy sits at 10-24 overall and 6-10 in the NYCAC.

Game One
Adelphi took an early one run lead when freshman Julia Schaper (Warwick, N.Y.) scored on a while pitch in the top of the third. But Molloy evened the score at one in the bottom of the fourth when Melissa Young (Scottsdale, AZ) hit a home run off of Adelphi pitcher Samantha Tilton (Islip, N.Y.).

In the tenth and 11th frames Adelphi and Molloy traded runs, each team scored three runs in the tenth and one run in the 11th to enter the 12th inning knotted at five. The Lions held Adelphi scoreless in the top of the 12th and Katie Scotko (Glendale, N.Y.) reached on a fielder's choice that scored Jamie Geagan (Plainedge, N.Y.) to give Molloy a 6-5 win.

Tilton pitched 11.1 innings, allowed just two earned runs and struck out eight in the loss. Francesca Romano (South Ozone Park, N.Y.) went the distance for the Lions and struck out 11 to collect the win.

Game Two
The Panthers came out firing in game two, scoring two runs in the top of the first on three hits to take an early 2-0 lead. Molloy briefly took a 4-2 lead after scoring four runs in the bottom of the second on four hits.

In the top of the third Adelphi took control of the game for good, scoring five runs on five hits, including a three run home run by senior Theresa Kotulak (Clifton, NJ) and a two run home run just two batters later by Ashley Spreer (New Windsor, N.Y.) to make it a 7-4 game.

Adelphi would tack on two more runs in the top of the fourth on a Beth Fletcher (Walden, N.Y.) double and another two runs in the top of the fifth on a Kristina LoCastro (Garden City, N.Y.) home run and a wild pitch. Carla Buonviaggio (Staten Island, N.Y.) picked up the win, pitching five innings and striking out two, while Scotko was credited with the loss.

Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, April 20 when they travel to Sparkill, New York for a 3:00 pm match-up with St. Thomas Aquinas.
