Garden City, N.Y. - For the second time in two days junior Amy Delmore and sophomore Kristina LoCastro each collected homeruns to help Adelphi University to a 8-5, 5-3 sweep of American International in non-conference softball action on Sunday afternoon. The Panthers improve to 12-10 while the Yellow Jackets drop to 3-13.

Offensively the Panthers were led by Delmore who was 3-6 with a double and homerun for three runs batted in. Senior Theresa Kotulak also had a solid day, hitting 4-5 with two doubles and two RBI.

Adelphi exploded with five runs in the first inning including Delmore's three-run blast. Junior Beth Fletcher was 2-3 in the contest, nabbing a triple for the final run of the inning. AIC got on board in the second inning after loading the bases then walking to force a runner home. The Panthers extended their lead to 8-1 in the fourth by loading the bases then taking advantage of an AIC error to bring home Fletcher and senior Ivy Klein. Kotulak singled for the remaining run. The Yellow Jackets gave the Panthers a scare in the seventh with back-to back homeruns by freshman Tara DeMontier and senior Nikki Matisi, but held on for the win.

Freshman Julia Schaper (3-2) collected the win, allowing eight hits, five runs, four earned, walking two and striking out six.

In game two, Adelphi scored first in the fourth inning as LoCastro doubled to bring in Delmore. The Yellow Jackets knotted the score, 1-1, in the sixth. Adelphi surged ahead, scoring four runs led by LoCastro's two-run homer. Senior Ashley Spreer accounted for the remaining two runs. AIC again rallied in the seventh, picking up two runs before the Panthers shut them down for good.

Senior Katie Terris (3-2) allowed six hits, one run, one earned while striking out two. Junior Carla Buonviaggio picked up the win, allowing one hit, two runs, two earned, walking three and striking out two.

Adelphi returns to conference action on Tuesday, April 19, hosting Philadelphia University at 3:30 p.m.
