June 2, 2004 Four members of the Adelphi University women's lacrosse team were named to the IWLCA/US Lacrosse Division II All-American teams sponsored by Harrow Sports. Junior Katherine Hock (Mineola, N.Y.), sophomore Melissa Demasi (Shirley, N.Y.) and freshman Lauren Lopez (Farmingville, N.Y.) were first-team selections, while freshman Diana Lopez (Farmingville, N.Y.) earned second-team honors. With four players, Adelphi (13-1) had the most nominations among any other school represented. Under the direction of Head Coach Jill Lessne, the Panthers now boast seven All-American honorees in the team's four-year history. This is the third All-American nod for Hock, who was named a second-team selection in each of the previous two years. Hock led the Panthers to their first NCAA title by scoring six second half goals to lift Adelphi to a 12-11 win over West Chester on May 15. Averaging 5.0 goals over the two-day tournament, she was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team. Earlier this week, she was named a first-team All-Region selection. For the third straight season, she led the Panthers in goals (52) and points (72). She is also the all-time career leader in both categories. Demasi, making her first All-American team, started in all 14 games at defense for the Panthers. She was instrumental in shutting down key scorers for both C.W. Post and West Chester in NCAA Championships games. For her efforts she was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team and also a first-team All-Region selection. L. Lopez had an impressive freshman campaign, starting in 12 games and finishing the season ranked second in scoring with 42 goals and nine assists for 51 points. She averaged 2.5 points per game at the NCAA Championships, earning All-Tournament honors. In addition, she was named a first-team All-Region selection. D.Lopez, a second-team selection, rounds out the dynamic freshmen duo. She ranked third on the in scoring (39G, 11A) with 50 points. She averaged 1.5 goals per game during the NCAA Tournament and was a first-team All-Region selection. The IWLCA banquet will be held in Baltimore, Maryland on Saturday, June 5. The Player of the Year awards as well as Scholar-Athlete and other special awards will be presented at that time. For complete All-American team listings, go to IWLCA.
