May 25, 2006 Garden City, N.Y. - A total of six members of the Adelphi University women's lacrosse team were selected to the 2006 Division II All-Regional Team as announced by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) on Wednesday afternoon. Senior defender Melissa Demasi, junior attack Diana Lopez, junior midfielder Lauren Lopez and junior goalie Allyson Murphy, along with freshman attack Rachel Ray all received first team honors. Senior defender Mary Cannata was a second team selection. Each of the selections have already been recognized this season as first-team All-NYCAC picks. Demasi makes her third appearance as a first-team selection. She had 28 ground balls and nine caused turnovers this season. Demasi is also a two-time All-America selection. This is also the third selection for Lauren Lopez who led the Panthers in scoring this season with 58 goals and 18 assists for 76 points. In 2006, she was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team for helping the Panthers to their second NCAA title in three years. Lauren has also earned first-team All-American honors in 2004 and 2005 Diana Lopez was a first-team all-region selection in 2004 and a second-team selection in 2005. A second-team All-America in 2005, Diana was third in scoring with 39 goals and 28 assists. She was also named to the NCAA All-Tournament team. Murphy was a second-team selection in 2004. She posted a 16-1 winning record and led the nation with a 6.1 goals against average and was second in save percentage (0.567). Murphy was also named to the NCAA All-Tournament team. Ray, the NYCAC Rookie of the Year, makes her first appearance on the all-region list. She ranked second on team in goals with 42 and recorded 19 assists. Cannata was named a second team pick in 2005. She recorded 42 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers for the Panthers this season. Cannata was a NCAA All-Tournament selection in 2006. These athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-American teams, which will be announced on May 30. The IWLCA and US Lacrosse will honor the National All-Americans at an awards banquet on June 10, 2006 in Baltimore, MD. |
