May 10, 2006 New York, N.Y. - Adelphi freshman attack Rachel Ray (Rocky Point, N.Y.) has been selected as NYCAC Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Year by the league's coaches, as was announced today. Senior attack Shannon Fabian (Rocky Point, N.Y.) of C.W. Post was chosen as NYCAC Player of the Year, and C.W. Post coach Karen MacCrate was selected by her peers as NYCAC Coach of the Year. C.W. Post capped the regular season with a 14-13 overtime victory at Adelphi on Saturday, giving the Pioneers the inaugural NYCAC women's lacrosse crown. The two teams will meet again on Saturday in the national semifinals at the NCAA Division II Final Four in Lisle, Ill. Ray had 40 goals and 19 assists for Adelphi (14-1). Fabian has scored 40 goals and has notched 68 assists; her 6.35 points per game leads the NYCAC. MacCrate, now in her seventh season at the C.W. Post helm, led the Pioneers to a 16-1 overall record and 5-0 NYCAC mark. Adelphi placed a total of eight players on the NYCAC First Team; in addition to Ray, other Panthers honored included senior attack Dawn Anselmin, junior attack Diana Lopez, junior midfielder Lauren Lopez, senior defenders Mary Cannata, Melissa Demasi and Jayna Kyriacou, and junior goalkeeper Allyson Murphy. Pioneer teammates, junior midfielder Lauren LoMonaco, sophomore midfielder Mallory Poole and junior defender Kristy Abrams joined Fabian on the first team. Freshman midfielder Mallory Ferrandiz of New Haven was also named to the First Team. In all, Adelphi placed 10 players on the squads and C.W. Post had eight.
