April 25, 2006 Garden City, N.Y. - Senior Dawn Anselmin garnered NYCAC Player of the Week honors, while freshman Rachel Ray was named Rookie of the Week. Junior Allyson Murphy was named Goalie of the Week for the #1 Adelphi University Panthers. Anselmin had 18 points in three games last week, scoring eight goals and tallying 10 assists in victories over Bryant University, Merrimack College, and conference opponent STAC. She contributed a "hat-trick" and six assists in the defeat of Bryant, tying Adelphi's single-game assist record. Anselmin started the second half scoring against both Merrimack and STAC; against the Warriors her three-goal run helped the Panther offense to break away in scoring for the win. Ray continues to have a strong first year, finishing last week with 10 goals, three assists for a total 13 points. The freshman attacker netted "hat-tricks" in both the 17-6 win over Bryant and the 15-9 win over Merrimack, during which she tied the game for the Panthers with an unassisted goal in the 19th minute which came after AU trailed the Warriors, 5-4 in the first half. Ray was the leading scorer with four goals in the conference victory over STAC. Murphy captured three wins last week against Bryant, Merrimack, and conference foe STAC, stopping 20 shots-on-goal and finishing out the week with a 6.40 goals against average. In the Panthers' victory over Bryant, Murphy held the Bulldogs to 2-of-7 on free position shots. Murphy stopped six against Merrimack and five in the first 34 minutes of play against STAC. Adelphi (11-0) returns to action on Thursday,April 27, traveling to Southern Connecticut State University for a 7:00 p.m. contest. |
