July 17, 2007 Garden City, N.Y. - The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced its 2006-2007 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll for NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA and Junior College/Community College and Adelphi University was one of the institutions to be honored. The awards recognize teams throughout the nation that have the highest grade point averages (GPA) for the 2006-2007 season based upon nominations submitted by WBCA-member coaches. "It was one of our team goals last year to be ranked academically in the top 25," Head Coach Kelley Watts stated. "I am thrilled and extremely proud of the team and their efforts in the classroom. It's a great reflection on all the positive changes taking place at Adelphi." The Panthers are ranked 21st in the poll with a 3.332 cumulative grade point average. Adelphi, along with No.19 Pace (3.347) were the only two institutions from the Northeast Region to be recognized. Lake Superior State University topped the list with a 3.588 team GPA. The WBCA Academic Honor is the first for Adelphi since the 1999-00 season when the Panthers ranked 14th in the nation at the Division II level with a 3.555 GPA. Founded in 1981, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) promotes women's basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport and to foster and promote the development of the game in all of its aspects as a sport for women and girls.
