Adelphi Contingent Heads To Empire State Games

Garden City, N.Y. - Thirteen athletes with ties to Adelphi University are headed to the 2007 Empire State Summer Games hosted in Westchester County, NY. A combination of student-athletes, alumni and coaches will represent the Long Island Region in basketball, soccer, track & field and bowling.

The largest group can be found in the open women's soccer division where seven Adelphi athletes and alumni are competing. Kimberly Campbell '02 (Massapequa, N.Y.), Andrea Fasano '04 (Syosset, N.Y.), Luciana Pace '04 (Bellmore, N.Y.), Josefa Pace '05 (Bellmore, N.Y.) and Domonique Riccarado '04 (Valley Stream, N.Y.) are included on the 16 member roster coached by former Adelphi assistant Steve Cadet. Junior Marissa Cannella (Cornwall, N.Y.) and sophomore Amanda Popoli (South Salem, N.Y.) are both representing the Hudson Valley Region.

Senior forward Gianna Smith (Hempstead, N.Y.) and second-year assistant coach Donna Lohrey (Garden City, N.Y.) will participate on the Open Women's Basketball team. Also joining the women's team at guard is Maggie Cosgrove, the daughter of Adelphi Head Men's Basketball Coach, James Cosgrove.

Incoming freshman Jennifer Ferraro (Bethpage, N.Y.) will compete in bowling, while Pete Ninavaggi '06 (Lynbrook, N.Y.) will represent track & field in the open shot put.

The Summer Games kick off on July 25 at 7:30 p.m. with opening ceremonies to be held at Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla, New York. All competition begins on Thursday, July 26. A complete listing of events can be found at www.empirestategames.org/summer
