Box Score

Garden City, N.Y. -

Seton Hall's Mark Pedreiras (Union, N.J.) scored three times in the first half to lift the visiting Pirates to a 3-0 win over Adelphi. The Panthers were out shot 24-5 in the loss. With the loss Adelphi falls to 0-1 on the year, while Seton Hall improves to 1-0.

The Panthers came out fast but Seton Hall struck first, scoring just over ten minutes into action. Mark Pedreiras (Union, N.J.) collected the ball in Adelphi's box and slipped around a diving Peter Ruff (Bethpage, N.Y.) before putting the ball home.

Pedreiras struck again ten minutes later when he bent the ball around an Adelphi defender and snuck it in the lower right corner, giving the Pirates a 2-0 lead halfway through the first period of play. Pedreiras completed the hat trick just before halftime when John Raus (Stamford, Conn.) took a shot from inside the Adelphi box and Pedreiras tipped it home to give Seton Hall a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.

Adelphi came out of halftime strong, getting a solid shot on goal just seconds after the whistle. Unfortunately the Panthers could not put the ball in the Pirate goal. The Adelphi defense played strong, blocking several Pirate shots, while Ruff kept the Panthers in the game, collecting 10 saves. Boris Pardo (Hillside, N.J) picked up two saves in the win.

The Panthers return to action Sunday, September 5th when they travel to Syracuse, New York to take on Syracuse University at 1 pm.
