Cross-Country Picks Up Fifth and Seventh at The NYU Invitational

Bronx, N.Y. - The Adelphi men and women's cross-country teams traveled to Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, New York to compete in the New York University Invitational. led by race winner junior Ify Anene, the women placed fifth out of a field of 22 teams with 138 points, while the men captured seventh overall out of 23 teams with a score of 208 points.

Anene covered the 5K course in a time of 19:11 to collect her first collegiate win, beating out second place by 10 seconds. Anene's win is the first Adelphi individual victory since 2002, when Stephanie Henderson won the ECC Championship meet.

Senior Danielle Conner was the second Panther across the line, stopping the clock at 20:16 to finish 10th overall. Senior Melissa Coelho finished 28th overall in 20:58, followed by Lindsay LaFleur (21:28) in 47th and Danielle Matteo (21:32) in 52nd.

Sophomore Heather Troutman and senior Meghan Farrell rounded out Adelphi's top-seven. Troutman posted a time of 21:37, placing 58th, while Farrell placed 71st in a time of 21:52.

The men were paced by senior Matt Dispensa and freshman Ryan Pezzulo, who both finished in the top-25. Dispensa finished 17th overall in a time of 27:04, while Pezzulo clocked a time of 27:24 to place 25th. Freshman Adam Clark, senior Mike Dorman and sophomore Jeff Perez finished 41st, 53rd and 72nd respectively with times of 27:57, 28:11 and 28:32.

Junior Carlos Techera and freshman Bailey Ince rounded out the Panthers top-seven. Techera placed 80th overall with a time of 28:43, while Ince clocked in at 30:18 to finish 158th.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, September 22nd when they travel to Waterford, Connecticut to compete in the Connecticut College Invitational.
