Long Branch, NJ - The Adelphi University track and field team traveled to Long Branch, New Jersey on March 26 to compete in the Monmouth Season Opener. It was the first meet of the outdoor season for Adelphi and the Panthers went up against Division I, II and III competition.

On the women's side Katie DiPietro (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) and Morgan Russell (Baldwin, N.Y.) turned in the only individual top ten finishes. DiPietro placed 10th in the 5,000 meter run in a time of 19:37, while Russell took home seventh in the 100 meter hurdles (17.69). The women's 1600 meter sprint medley relay (4:54.61) and 4x100 meter relay (52.7) placed 5th and 6th respectively. Both teams were comprised of Russell, Ricki Velotti (Hewlett, N.Y.), Megan Murphy (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and Ashley Merkle (Bohemia, N.Y.).

Ryan Soltan (Sayville, N.Y.) led the men with a second place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Soltan crossed the line in 9:58.86, finishing 10 seconds ahead of third and just five seconds behind first. Matt Dispensa (College Point, N.Y.) also placed in the top ten, finishing eighth in the 10,000 meter run in a clocking of 35:37.75. Mark Pollard (Deer Park, N.Y.), Sean Murphy (Lynbrook, N.Y.), Aaron Warner (Queens Village, N.Y.) and Will Marshall (Laurelton, N.Y.) combined to place fifth in the 1600 meter sprint medley relay (3:47.97).

Adelphi returns to the track on April 16, when they travel to King's Point, New York to compete in the Bill Omeltchenko Meet at the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
