DURHAM, N.C. - Danielle Hepburn led five Clemson double-figure hitters and the Clemson volleyball team knocked off #13 Duke, 3-2 (30-23, 30-26, 28-30, 19-30, 15-10) in Durham, NC on Saturday night. With the win, the Tigers claimed sole possession of first place in the ACC and are the only remaining undefeated team in league play at 8-0. "This was a really big win for us, especially for our seniors," Clemson Head Coach Jolene Jordan Hoover said. "They have done a wonderful job leading this team and we just had a great defensive effort by everyone tonight." The 2007 Clemson squad (15-2, 8-0 ACC) continues to make school history with its eight straight wins to start the conference season and Saturday's victory was the program's first over a ranked opponent since the 2004 season.
Hepburn tied her season high with 19 kills against the Blue Devils, while Meghan Steiner added 13 kills, including match point, with a .478 hitting percentage. Jeannette Abbott, Leslie Mansfield and Lia Proctor each had at least 10 kills for the Tiger offense, and four Clemson players were in double figures for digs as well, led by Didem Ege's 27.
Boston College 3, Florida State 2
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College volleyball team trailed Florida State, 2-0, but rebounded to win three-straight-games to defeat the Seminoles, 3-2, Saturday night at Power Gymnasium. With the win, the Eagles upped their record to 10-9 overall, 4-5 in the ACC. BC now owns an 8-1 record at home this season. The match against the Seminoles was the second time this season that BC trailed 2-0 at home and rallied to win, 3-2. Florida State held a commanding 2-0 lead, winning by scores of 30-17 and 30-18. The Eagles were able to battle back and take game-three, 31-29. After taking game-three, BC won game-four, 30-20 and game-five, 15-7.
Kelsey Johnson totaled a season and match-high 31 kills and added 16 digs for her eighth double-double of the season. Dani Moskitis dished out a career-high 40 assists and tallied 10 digs for her second career double-double.
Georgia Tech 3, Wake Forest 1 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Talisa Kellogg led four Yellow Jackets in double figures, posting a match-high 19 kills, to lead Georgia Tech (11-7, 5-3 ACC) to a 3-1 (30-19, 30-27, 28-30, 30-18) victory over Wake Forest (7-12, 4-6 ACC) Saturday night at Reynolds Coliseum. Kellogg hit .372 and also recorded three block assists and a solo block while Nikki Kaminskas hit .556 with 12 kills in addition to seven block assists and two service aces against the Demon Deacons.
Setter Allie Niekamp ran the Yellow Jacket offense, which hit .270 on the night, with 59 assists, seven digs, seven kills and four block assists. Libero Michelle Kandell notched a match-high 23 digs and had four assists against Wake Forest.
Maryland 3, Miami 1 COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior outside hitter Mary Beth Brown (Vienna, Va.) notched a team-high 13 kills on a season-high .458 hitting percentage and the Maryland volleyball team stayed perfect at home this season, knocking off the visiting Miami Hurricanes, 3-1 (30-16, 30-27, 22-30, 30-25), Saturday night at the Comcast Center Pavilion. With the victory, the Terrapins improved to 12-6 and 4-5 in the Atlantic Coast Conference this season. The Hurricanes fell to 8-10 and 2-7 in the ACC. The Terps put game one away early, scoring six consecutive points to improve their lead from 7-5 to 13-5. The Terps cruised from there, never leading by less than seven the rest of the game.
After leading by as many as eight in the second game, Miami roared back to take several late leads, including a 25-23 lead before the Terps finished on a 7-2 run, culminating in a kill by Brown.
Virginia Tech 3, NC State 1 BLACKSBURG, Va. - Despite dropping the opening frame, the Virginia Tech volleyball team won its seventh straight match over NC State Saturday evening in Cassell Coliseum. Seniors Jen Albrecht and Amanda Cloyd led the Hokies to a 3-1 (27-30, 30-16, 30-28, 30-17) win over the Wolfpack knocking down 17 kills and collecting 28 digs, respectively. Cloyd is currently 11 digs shy of becoming the first player in program history to record 2,000 digs in a career. Junior Sarah Muñoz collected her second consecutive double-double landing a season-high 14 kills and 12 digs, while sophomores Taylor Parrish and Jill Gergen picked up 23 and 10 digs, respectively.
Freshman Felicia Willoughby moved into second place on Tech's freshman records chart in collecting eight blocks, putting her at 107 blocks in her rookie campaign. Sophomore Michelle Lang dished out 47 assists and stopped five attacks.
