![]() 2006 All-ACC Academic Softball Team Announced

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The ACC's Player and Pitcher of the Year and Freshman of the Year are among those honored on the inaugural All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Softball Team, as announced Wednesday by Commissioner John D. Swofford. All eight league schools that sponsor softball are represented on the team.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
All-American Angela Tincher, the ACC Pitcher of the Year and Player of the Year as well as an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American, headlines the team, and was one of four Virginia Tech selections. Virginia led the league with six selections to the squad, with second team All-ACC pick Jessica Taylor leading the way for the Cavaliers. Georgia Tech was second in the league with five student-athletes earning spots on the All-ACC Academic Team, including 2006 Freshman of the Year Whitney Haller.
Boston College, NC State and Virginia Tech each had four selections. Florida State, which features First Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American Natasha Jacob, Maryland and North Carolina each placed three student-athletes on the squad.
The inaugural All-ACC Academic Softball Team features one All-American, two Academic All-Americans, five All-Region picks and eight All-ACC selections.
