![]() Northwestern Knocks Off Tech Softball, 5-2 March 24, 1999 ATLANTA - Northwestern scored in four of its seven at bats and capitalized on a pair of Georgia Tech errors to stop the Yellow Jackets, 5-2, Wednesday at Glenn Field. The Wildcats improved to 10-14, while the Jackets fell to 14-17. Northwestern got on the board in the top of the first inning after catcher Gretchen Barnes doubled and scored off of a ground ball by pitcher Brooke Siebel, as Tech third baseman Jamie Frost's throw to the plate was in the dirt. Siebel added an RBI single in the third inning and then scored ahead of right fielder Lindsey Prezell in fifth inning, who connected on a two-run homerun. Georgia Tech only collected five hits off of Northwestern and rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jenni Beseres relieved to Siebel to start the frame and retired the first two batters. She then yielded a hit batsman and a walk and designated player Beth Warren and first baseman Miki Deal each followed with RBI singles. Siebel returned and got pinch hitter Abby Bickford to foul out to end the threat. Siebel moved to 8-12 with the win, while Tech starter Mimi Utt fell to 8-10 with the loss. Deal lead Tech with a 2-for-3 effort with one RBI, Warren was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Barnes was 2-for-4 with two RBI to pace the Wildcats and center fielder Rane Gunderson was also 2-for-2 with a run scored. Tech is in action this weekend as it hosts the 25-team Buzz Classic at Al Bishop Softball Complex in Marietta, Ga. The Jackets begin play with a 3 p.m., game against Rhode Island and an 8 p.m., contest versus Niagara.
