TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State University women's soccer coach Patrick Baker announced the Lady Seminoles 2000 fall schedule today. The upcoming season will be highlighted by trips to Columbia, Mo., and Eugene, Ore., and two trips to North Carolina. The pre-season finds the Seminoles scrimmaging the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens, Ga., on August 18th at 7:00pm. The ladies will then play ten 1999 NCAA Tournament teams throughout the remainder of the fall.

"Our season opens with a very big in-state and regional match-up when we host the University of Florida on August 25th," Baker said. "They are currently the measuring stick for our program and we look forward to showing signs of improvement against them."

The team remains home for two more contests, Sunday, August 27th they host South Florida and on Wednesday, August 30th they welcome Jacksonville University. These are two in-state games that will be important matches for Florida State. Rounding out the week has the Seminoles traveling north to Columbia, Mo., to participate in the Missouri Tiger Tournament on September 1st and 3rd. The team will face host Missouri on Friday afternoon and then will play Big Ten opponent Ohio State on Sunday morning.

Florida State returns to face their most difficult home weekend of the fall when they face two nationally ranked teams in Texas A&M on September 8th and Clemson on September 10th.

"Both of these teams are very well coaches and exciting to watch," Baker said. "We will have our work cut out for us and playing Clemson for our ACC opener is no easy task. But we will have been tested by that point and hopefully the team will be ready."

September 13th sends the Seminoles to Mobile, Ala., to take on South Alabama and on September 16th the team travels to Durham, N.C., to face its second ACC foe - the Duke Blue Devils. Florida State then comes home to prepare for the first Annual Seminole Soccer Tournament to be held on September 22nd and 24th. The team will battle Central Florida on Friday night and Florida International on Sunday afternoon.

The team completes the month of September by heading west to face two PAC-10 opponents, playing Oregon State on Friday, September 29th and at the University of Oregon on Sunday, October 1st. It will be the first time Florida State has played a PAC-10 team and it will be their first venture to the state of Oregon.

"After an intense month of games, it doesn't get any easier with the games in Oregon," Baker said. "The trip will allow us to see teams and parts of the country that we haven't been to yet. It should be an exciting couple of days and we are even tying in some activities at the Nike headquarters while we are there."

The Seminoles return to Tallahassee to play their third ACC foe in Wake Forest on Saturday evening, October 7th. A week later the team returns to North Carolina to face the Wolfpack of N.C. State on Saturday, October 14th. Three days later, the defending National Champion North Carolina Tar Heels come to town for a big game on Tuesday, October 17th.

The last three regular season games find the Seminoles with two away games before the season finale on October 28th. The team will travel to the University of Miami to face the Hurricanes on Wednesday, October 25th. Senior night will be held on Saturday, October 28th as Florida State hosts the Virginia Cavaliers.

The Atlantic Coast Conference, which sent six of its eight teams to the NCAA Tournament last fall, will have its post season tournament at Duke University in Durham, N.C., on November 2nd, 3rd and 5th.

"We have a very challenging schedule, both in and out of the ACC this year," Baker said. "The players and I are looking forward to the fall ahead and it will be an exciting opportunity to show the continued improvement within our women's soccer program."
