TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The women's soccer program is extremely proud of receiving the Athletic Director's Cup for Service at the 2000 Golden Nole Banquet. The ladies have put in a tremendous amount of time and energy into community service this past year. Last year at the Golden Nole banquet, the women's soccer team had only 1 hour total of community service for the entire team. The team has made a concerted effort this past year to improve. This year, the team totaled approximately 719 hours of service, 34.24 hours per player, compared to only one hour in the 1998-99 year.

"I am very proud of our young ladies and their commitment to community service this year," Head Coach Patrick Baker said. "To go from 1 hr. as a team in 98-99 to 719 hours this year is impressive. We have tried to reach out to the community and help in a number of different areas. The team is continually giving of themselves which means a lot. We have raised the bar in regards to helping people locally, and that will only continue in years to come."

One specific member of the women's soccer team has really made a significant impact in the area of community service. Sophomore Christy Peacock, the Golden Nole representative for the soccer team, was one of six student-athletes to receive an ACC Top Six Award for Service. Christy has been instrumental in her team's community service efforts. She has spent over 30 hours tutoring local children in various academic areas. In addition, she participated in Habitat for Humanity, the Downtown/Sprint Volunteers, the Elks Lodge, Youth Day, the Recreational Soccer Jamboree, and she has spent considerable time assisting a local paraplegic. Christy was additionally named the Seminole Spirit February Volunteer of the Month for all of her efforts.
