April 8, 2003 DURHAM, N.C. - Duke head coach Robbie Church announced Tuesday that Meghann Burke will serve as the goalkeeper coach for the Blue Devils this fall. The St. Louis, Mo. native is the starting goalkeeper for WUSA's Carolina Courage after being drafted 16th overall in the second round out of Saint Louis in 2003. "We're very excited to have Meghann join our coaching staff," said Church. "She is a quality young lady who will do a great job with our goalkeepers." Burke became the first and only player in Saint Louis University's history to be named NSCAA All-America in 2002 and is a two-time NSCAA All-Region player. In 2000 and 2002, Burke won the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year and was an All-Conference First Team selection. In 2001, the goalkeeper was on the All-Conference third team and as a freshman in 1999 was named C-USA Freshman of the Year, along with being named to the All-Conference Second Team and All-Freshman Team. Burke owns every school goalkeeping record, including career records with a 0.89 goals against average, a Conference USA record 38 shutouts, 48 wins and 347 saves. During her senior season, she broke her own school record with 12 shutouts and ended the season with a 0.78 goals against average.
