CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Three members of the 1998 University of North Carolina women's soccer team were named Tuesday to the 1998 Soccer America Women's Collegiate Most Valuable Players list, the magazine's first-team All-America squad.

Named to the team from the Tar Heel club which won the Atlantic Coast Conference championship and was the runnerup in the NCAA Tournament were senior forward Cindy Parlow, senior midfielder Tiffany Roberts and junior defender Lorrie Fair.

All three had magnificent seasons for Coach Anson Dorrance's team which finished 25-1-0 overall, losing only 1-0 in the national championship game to Florida.

Parlow finished her Tar Heel career tied for seventh in career scoring at UNC with 189 points, joining former Carolina great Tisha Venturini (1991-94). Roberts, the most underrated Tar Heel player, stepped up her play in the post-season and led Carolina to its 10th straight ACC title and the NCAA finals for the 16th time in the last 17 years. Fair, also a member of the U.S. National Team, was second on the UNC team with 16 assists this year. She led a defense which allowed only seven goals in 26 games.

Other Soccer America 1998 Collegiate MVPs were senior midfielder Erin Baxter of Florida, junior forward Mandy Clemens of Santa Clara, senior forward Kim Engesser of Nebraska, senior forward Danielle Fotopoulos of Florida, senior defender Michelle French of Portland, sophomore goalkeeper Kristin Luckenbill of Dartmouth, sophomore midfielder Anne Makinen of Notre Dame and junior midfielder Nikki Serlenga of Santa Clara.
