University of Maryland women's lacrosse players Annie Morris and Julie Shank have been selected as members of the Intercollegaite Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association's (IWLCA) National Academic Squad.
Morris, a senior from Waltham, Vt., was one of the Terrapins' top defensive reserves in 2002. A painting and art history major with a 3.26 grade point average, she played in all 21 games for Maryland while starting four. She scooped up eight ground balls, had six caused turnovers and a pair of draw controls.
A junior from Arnold, Md., Shank started all 21 games on defense despite entering the season with an injured knee. She notched career highs in goals (5), assists (3) and points (8) while collecting 41 ground balls, causing 22 turnovers and securing 20 draw controls. A business and psychology major, she has posted an impressive 3.88 cumulative GPA in her first three years at Maryland.
