![]() Three Blue Devils Selected To USA Developmental Team
June 5, 2000
DURHAM, N.C. -- Two Duke University women's lacrosse student-athletes, Lauren Gallagher and Meghan Walters, and one Blue Devil alumnus, Meghan McLaughlin, will represent the United States this summer on the USA Women's Lacrosse Developmental Team. Both current Blue Devils are rising sophomores at Duke University and played a key role in the Blue Devils' 11-6 record in 2000. Gallagher, a native of West Chester, Pa., started all 17 matches as a freshman and ranked fifth on Duke's squad with 22 goals. She added 12 assists, which was second-best on the team. Gallagher has previous experience representing the U.S. as last summer she was a member of the Under-19 World Cup U.S. team. Walters (Wyndmoor, Pa.) came in her first year at Duke and started 12 of her 17 matches played. She quickly became the defensive stopper for the Blue Devils as she was teamed up against the opponent's top scorer during matches. She held Jen Adams of Maryland to three goals and two assists, held North Carolina's Kellie Thompson to no goals and no assists, held Virginia's Jamie Haas to no goals and no assists, and held the nation's leading scorer, Jamie Weitzel of Dartmouth, to three goals in two matches. McLaughlin will be making her second straight appearance on the team as she played with Kate Kaiser and Tricia Martin last summer. She played for Duke from 1996-99. The USA Developmental Team was released on Monday by Sue Murphy, the head coach of the USA team. The team will open its 2000-2001 schedule at Rutgers University on June 17 with a clinic in the morning and a match in the afternoon.
