BALTIMORE, Md. - The Maryland women's lacrosse team, led by sophomore attack and tournament MVP Jen Adams, recorded its fifth consecutive national championship on Sunday afternoon, defeating Virginia 16-6 in front of 4,250 fans at Johns Hopkins University.

The win also gave the Terps a perfect 21-0 record, something only the 1995 (17-0) and the 1996 (19-0) Maryland teams had previously accomplished.

The Terps, who entered as the nation's top-ranked team and winners of their last 27 games, jumped out to an early 4-0 lead as junior Kristin Sommar (North Wales, Pa.), sophomores Meghan McNamara (East Northport, N.Y.) and Allison Comito (Glen Head, N.Y.) and junior Christie Jenkins (Media, Pa.) each posted the game's first four goals, respectively.

The Cavaliers would net their first goal at the 17:09 mark after Jamie Haas scored off an unassisted goal. The Terps would then explode for seven more first-half goals and at the same time allow Virginia to only one goal.

The Terps took an 11-2 lead in at halftime with Adams, Sommar and Jenkins each scoring two goals apiece.

Adams would net her third goal of the day to open the second half as she accepted one of sophomore attack Quinn Carney's (Flemington, N.J.) four assists on the afternoon to give the Terps a 12-2 lead just two minutes and forty-seven seconds into the second half.

Virginia would not score again until five minutes remaining in the game as Samm Taylor connected off of a Mills Hook assist to cut the Terps' lead to 16-3. The 'Hoos would close out the contest, scoring three consecutive goals.

Maryland junior Alex Kahoe (Villanova, Pa.) concluded her junior campaign with an 18-save, five-goals-allowed performance. Freshman Kim Blouin (Annapolis, Md.) charted one save and allowed a Virginia goal with eight seconds remaining.

Adams was joined on the all-tournament team by Sommar, Jenkins, Kahoe and Comito.
