![]() U.S. Team Falls To Chile At Junior World Cup

BUENOS AIRES -- The U.S. Field Hockey Under 21 team, featuring six current or future North Carolina players, fell 1-0 to Chile Saturday for its fourth straight loss at the Junior World Cup. Chile's Danielle Infante scored the game-winning goal in the 62nd minute.
The game marked the second round of pool play after the U.S. suffered losses to New Zealand, India and The Netherlands in the first round of play. The U.S. now joins Chile, Spain and Russia in a battle for the 9th-15th spots in the 15-team tournament. Tar Heel players on the team are Stephanie Fuller, Meredith Keller, Abby Martin, Abbey Woolley and Amy Tran, as well as incoming freshman Carey Fetting Smith. The U.S. returns to action on Monday against Russia.

May 17: Netherlands Tops US Field Hockey U21 Women
BUENOS AIRES -- Defending Junior World Cup Champion The Netherlands used a hat trick from Aukje DeGroot to top the U.S. Under-21 team, 6-0, in the final game of initial pool play in the 15-team tournament.
The loss drops the U.S. into Pool H of the second round where the team will join Spain and the losers of Friday's games between Chile-Spain and Canada-Russia. Teams in Pool H will battle for final spots in the 9th-15th positions.
DeGroot opened the scoring in the 8th minute on a penalty corner, and added to her total with additional goals at the 28- and 48-minute marks. Teammate Kim Lammers added a penalty corner and Nienke Van Ruiten scored a pair of pair of goals to complete the scoring for the defending champs.
