UNC Rowers Set For Competitive Weekend

April 14, 2000

North Carolina will take part in the largest regatta of the spring this weekend when the Tar Heels compete in the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The event, which includes 56 teams and more than 2000 student-athletes, runs Saturday and Sunday.

The field includes Atlantic Coast Conference rivals Clemson and Duke, so results will be used to determine seeding for the ACC Championship regatta, scheduled for April 29 in Charlottesville, Va. (Virginia, the other ACC team that competes in rowing, will not be at this weekend's event.)

Carolina's varsity eight also will compete against Clemson and Duke within this weekend's regatta for the Daughtry Cup, the Championship of the Carolinas. UNC won the inaugural cup last season. The Tar Heel varsity eight, ranked 24th nationally, is seeded first in the field for this weekend's racing.

For race results, log onto TarHeelBlue.com after approximately 1 p.m. on Saturday.
