![]() UNC's Teasley Named ACC Women's Player of the Week
February 15, 1999 GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina's Nikki Teasley garnered her second Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week award, while Florida State's April Traylor earned her second ACC Rookie of the Week honor for play during the week of February 8-14. A sophomore guard from Washington, DC, Teasley averaged 21.5 points, 6.0 assists and 5.5 rebounds in leading the Tar Heels to a pair of conference victories last week, including an 82-80 overtime win against No. 18 Virginia on Sunday in the final home game of the season for UNC. She led her team with a 24-point effort in the win over the Cavaliers scoring seven of the team's 12 points in overtime, including the jumper that put North Carolina up for good with 1:06 remaining in the game. She also added five rebounds, five assists and three steals. On Thursday at Maryland, Teasley led the Tar Heels in scoring with 19 points in a 78-63 victory. She also provided six rebounds and seven assists. She currently ranks seventh in the league in scoring with 15.5 points a game, while leading in steals (2.7 per game) and ranking second in assists (5.8 per game). Traylor garnered her second Rookie of the Week selection after posting a career-high 29 points on Thursday as Florida State fell to the Florida Gators 106-89 in Gainesville. A freshman from Martinsville, Ind., she went 8 of 19 from the field, including two three-pointers, while adding five assists, a steal and a rebound. She also set a new Seminole record with 22 free throw attempts. Since returning from a lower back injury, Traylor has scored in double figures in 11 of 13 games, including three games of 20 points or more.
