IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Two Maryland wrestlers are still alive after the first day of competition at the NCAA Wrestling Championships at the University of Iowa. Junior Brandon York (Gaithersburg, Md.) was knocked out of the 133 championship bracket in the second round by No. 2 seed Johnny Thompson from Oklahoma State. York will now move into the consolation bracket to face Ohio State's Jeff Ratliffe on Friday.

Redshirt-sophomore Jake Stork (Mohrsville, Pa.) won his first round match by a pin in :25 on Thursday. The match was contested and re-wrestled with Stork again defeating Seton Hall's John Garrigues by an 8-3 decision. Stork then lost his second-round match to the No. 3 seed at 184, Oklahoma State's Daniel Cormier, by a technical fall 22-7. Stork now moves into the consolation bracket and will compete again on Friday.

Juniors Mark Mansueto (West Chester, Pa.), at 141, and Josh Weidman (Hershey, Pa.), at 165, have completed competition at the tournament after losing two consecutive matches.

Competition continues Friday with sessions at 10:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
