![]() Maryland Wrestlers Finish Seventh at Congressional Cup February 7, 1999 WASHINGTON, D.C. - Cal. St. Bakersfield (No. 12, Amateur News Wrestling), led by four champions, captured the second annual American University Congressional Cup Wrestling Tournament, which featured 17 nationally-ranked wrestlers. The University of Maryland finished seventh of eight teams. Cal State-Bakersfield, which also posted three other finalists, finished with a team total of 97 points. Roadrunner's senior heavyweight Stephen Neal, (No. 1, AWN) won the 285-pound title. Neal, who is undefeated this season (30-0), has won 72 consecutive bouts and earned the Most Falls-Shortest Time Award by pinning Aaron Chandler of American (:34), Tom Petko of Rutgers (2:09), and Tim Croff of Carson-Neuman (1:59). Teammate Moses Delfin was named Most Outstanding Wrestler after topping Matt Roth of Virginia in a 5-2 decision in the 125-pound weight class. Lehigh finished in second place with 95 points. The Mountain Hawks had four champions including Mark Dufresne at 174 and John Van Doren at 184. Virginia was fourth with 49 points, American was fifth with 31.5, Rutgers placed sixth with 26, Maryland was seventh with 17.5 points and Carson-Newman was eighth with 14 points. Maryland redshirt freshman Brandon York (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) reached the finals in the 133-pound division, but was defeated by Hofstra's Roman Fleszar, by a 5-3 decision. The Terps (3-3, 1-1 in the ACC) take on the American Eagles this Tuesday at Bender Arena in Washington, D.C. beginning at 7:00 p.m. Final Team Scores
