![]() Wolfpack Wrestlers Crush Campbell February 5, 1999 RALEIGH, N.C. - Led Pierre Pryor's pin at 157 pounds and Kevin Boross's technical fall at 174, NC State defeated Campbell 30-9 in a college wrestling match Friday night at Reynolds Coliseum. The win evened the Wolfpack's season record in dual matches at 6-6, while Campbell dropped to 4-6-1. Junior Lee Carroll (Tarboro, N.C.) got the Wolfpack started with an 8-4 win over Joey Bricker at 125 pounds, improving to 10-8 on the season. Campbell forfeited at 133, giving NC State a 9-0 team lead, and senior Greg Bauer (Southampton, N.J.) moved up from 133 to 141 pounds and defeated Campbell's Abner Suarez 4-0 with an escape and a takedown in the third period to give the Wolfpack a 12-0 team lead. Sophomore Tommy Davis (Newark, Del.), ranked No. 15 nationally at
141, moved up to 149 and won a major decision over Campbell's Gary
Hughes, 11-2, to improve to 15-4 on the season and extend NC State's
team lead to 16-0. At 157, 19th-ranked Pryor (Virginia Beach, Va.), a
sophomore, pinned Camel freshman Adam Deputy in just 42 seconds, the
Wolfpack's fastest fall of the season, to give the Pack an
insurmountable team lead of 22-0. The pin was Pryor's fifth of the
season, his fourth in the first period, and upped his record to 14-6.
Campbell broke into the scoring column at 165 when junior Billy Greene handed John Grochowski (Wilmington, N.C.) a 5-4 defeat. Greene recorded the Camels' first takedown of the match, and also got a point on an escape and a stalling point. Boross (Solon, Ohio), a redshirt-sophomore, recorded a technical fall over Dallas Hicks, racking up a 22-5 lead after 6:00 to give the Wolfpack a 27-3 lead. Boross improved to 16-5 on the season. Sophomore Zach Breitenbach (Cary, N.C.) then defeated John Christian 5-1 at 184 to give the Wolfpack a 30-3 lead. The Camels rallied in the final two bouts of the evening. Sean Wheeler defeated sophomore Josh McClure (Charlotte, N.C.) by a 3-1 score with a takedown in overtime, and Camel heavyweight John Black won his ninth match in a row with a 6-3 win over Wolfpack freshman Billy Noble (Shallotte, N.C.).
